What: a fun and festive 10-hour community art-making marathon.
Why: To raise funds for ArtSeed’s Apprenticeship Program, Summer Fine Arts
Intensive and scholarships for youth from Bayview Hunters Point.
Who: Open to everyone – all ages and skill levels.
When: Saturday, April 17, 2010, 10 am to 8 pm, come for any duration.
Where: Thoreau Center’s Acre Café, in the Presidio. 1014 Torney Ave,
San Francisco, CA. Free Parking and entrance is at the rear of the building.

How does the ArtSeed Art-a-thon fundraiser work?
On April 17th, participants are challenged to create for as long as they can. In order to raise
funds to support ArtSeed’s education programs, participants register with ArtSeed and collect
pledges of sponsorship from friends and family for each hour they spend making art.
If you want to sponsor yourself that is fine too! No amount is too small to participate!
How does Collecting Pledges work and do I have to?
No, you may simply sponsor yourself at the door. Also nobody will be turned away for lack of funds.
However we encourage you to help us by challenging yourself to participate as an endurance art-a-
thoner and pledge collector! Registrants will receive a pledge sheet to keep track of their sponsorships.
The pledge sheet will be collected on the day of the event. Pledges can be as little as $1 per hour or
as much as sponsors feel comfortable giving. (Only 10 pledges of $1 per hour will help raise $100!)
Sponsors may also pledge a single flat rate donation of any amount. Flat rate donations can
be given online through ArtSeed’s website, mailed to ArtSeed, given to the registrant to bring
on event day, or sent in after the event upon receiving ArtSeed’s notification letter. In addition,
ArtSeed will create a personalized online Sponsorship page for each registrant to send out to
their prospective sponsors. After the event, ArtSeed will notify the sponsors of the amount
promised based on hours accomplished.
What can I expect on the day of the event?
Participants may come at anytime and stay for any duration between 10 a.m. to 8 p.m. on
April 17th. There will be plenty of work space indoors (and outdoors if the weather permits).
Art-a-thoners can bring their own projects to work on or take advantage of the various
stations with guidance and art supplies. Throughout the day there will be live music,
refreshments and guest artists. Friends and spectators are welcome!
The event will culminate in the last hour with a festive exhibition of art work made that day,
with prizes awarded in several categories. Categories will include: Best Collaboration, Judge’s
Favorite, Most Pledges collected for youth and for adults.
What supplies and stations will be available?
There will be basic supplies for painting (water colors, acrylic, natural dyes like beet juice and
coffee), drawing (pencil, charcoal, pens) and collage, assorted paper in stacks of ten, sizes
8 x 10 and 4 x 6. Special stations will include a stenciled T-shirt making station (bring your
own plain t-shirt or use ones provided as long as supplies last), faerie making station lead by
ArtSeed’s very own youth council members. Many participants will come with a plan and their
own supplies (silk screen, wood carving, printmaking for example) feel free to make friends
and collaborate or learn a new technique!
