Sabine Gysens, Virus Series #5

Sabine Gysens is a neuropsychologist, and as a frontline healthcare worker, she uses her Covid-19 doodles to revive and restore peace of mind. She says these are her first attempts to make art in this way. Some of us believe she, and others, are superheroes working on the frontline helping others. The art of Sabine Gysens and Jon E. Greene, who is a cook, can be an antidote to the nerve-racking situation we all face during the pandemic.

Virtual & In-person Gatherings, Teaching, Learning, and Art-making Together!
(Number of new artworks created: over 200!)

November 19, 2021

Dear ArtSeed Friend,

We did it again! Thanks to you we were able to endure and thrive while complying with San Francisco’s Health Order. Our 13th Annual Earth Day Art-a-thon, a virtual event, was a real success. Your support also made possible our annual Fine Arts Summer Intensive with two in-person locations and an online site connecting opposite ends of the city with more far-flung participants. Click here to see photos! Click here to see the calendar of activities. Click here to see a list of participants. Without interruption, our 2020 show, Only Zombies Race to Mass Extinction morphed into this year’s exciting interactive exhibition of art—extended into 2022!—New Normal: Learning from the Past to Move Forward Together.

ArtSeed’s Annual Fine Arts Interactive Exhibition

China Brotsky and Seed Galleries at Tides Converge in the Presidio

ArtSeed’s current exhibition evolved from our previous annual show, seamlessly attempting to reflect on both years’ unimaginable events. Children and Veterans have worked with artists to pose questions and reveal the challenges and power of this moment. How can people of various political and cultural persuasions resolve conflict and grapple with environmental and political issues disproportionately affecting communities of color and the poor? Can art heal social and personal wounds? Are we not all creators?

ArtSeed Statement: “I learned of ArtSeed from my friend Thomas Graves who is a volunteer and teacher there. Thomas told me of ArtSeed’s outreach to young artists and the opportunity to teach aspects of arts that are of interest to me. When I was young, I wished that I had access to someone who knew something about sequential arts. I relish the chance to inspire kids with lessons that I wish that I had had when I was growing up. ArtSeed is tailor-made to introduce emerging artists to practicing artists who inspire them.”
