Eliot Rattle, Volunteer Teaching Artist, Curator, Shipyard Artist in Residence
Born in England to a family of musicians (Conductor Simon Rattle is his dad) Eliot moved to San Francisco in 1997. After graduating with a Bachelor’s Degree in Liberal Arts in 2012 at Sarah Lawrence College, he completed a year-long program in Florence, Italy, studying both Italian cinema and portraiture. He pulls from mid-century film and television, particularly horror and science fiction to depict uncertainty and anxiety. During 3 years studying at the San Francisco Art Institute he began a life-changing experience he continues with Toolworks, a non-profit organization that pairs people with disabilities with aides/mentors. He helps organize/exhibit the artwork of his clients. He has also recently completed an artist residency at the Artspan Journal Building in San Francisco.
