Virtual Camps can be magical! From 9 a.m. to 5 p.m., Monday through Friday, July 6 to 24, more than 50 Summer Fine Arts Intensive interns, students, artists, other presenters, and attendees ranging from 7 to 87 years old listened, watched, or engaged off-screen in supervised activities that are meaningful to them at this unusual moment. We made our own ink with spoons and candles, worked with words, clay, and computer programming, collaborated on animations, learned about Piero della Francesca, the Museum of the African Diaspora, and more. The whimsy of art-making morphed into conversations about how environmental issues disproportionately affect the most marginalized and disadvantaged people worldwide. Who gets to be on computers and make art? Heartfelt and humorous exchanges planted seeds for our upcoming exhibition in San Francisco’s Presidio and in a virtual gallery at www.artseed.org.

Dina Kharag- “Sock Buddies”

Dina Kharag “Hello, my name is Dina Kharag. When it comes to art, I love creating to make people happy and allow self-expression while promoting relaxation techniques. In my spare time, I like to do photography, write poetry, knit, and do simple arts and crafts such as sock puppets. My daytime job is working with K to 5th students as an after school chess teacher. I also graduated in 2014 with a Bachelor’s degree in psychology and minor in education from the University of California, Santa Cruz. I have been part of ArtSeed for over 12 years and excited to be back as an online teacher for Summer Intensive 2020.”

“At this moment in history, I hope you will join me in supporting causes that strive to make this country a more just and humane place. My husband and I support the Southern Poverty Law Center, almost fifty years on the front lines. I invite you to join me in helping them with their invaluable work. To be sure, in any event, there are many other worthy organizations. Find even more anti-racist organizations that could use your support in the link above.

These past two decades have been hugely exciting for me, and the lives we’ve touched and the things we’ve accomplished are deeply gratifying. To all of our teachers, volunteers, funders, and most of all, our hundreds of students, my profound gratitude. I am fortunate to continue to have all of you as part of ArtSeed and my life.”Josefa Vaughan, Founding Executive Director
